Liberal Arts
Associate in Arts Degree
Through Program for Adult College Education (PACE)

Welcome to PACE.

Vista Community College’s Program for Adult College Education. All of us at PACE congratulate you on taking your first step toward earning a college degree.

As a PACE student, you will join hundreds of classmates and alumni who have made that momentous decision to start college. And, like many of our alumni, you most likely will decide to transfer your credits to a four-year university for a bachelor’s degree.

More than 90% of Vista’s PACE graduates enter California State Universities, the University of California or private colleges after they finish their Liberal Arts Associate in Arts Degree. They prepare for a variety of careers in fields such as Business Administration, Counseling, Education and Teaching, Government, Human Resources and Management, Law, Organizational Development and Public Administration. A number of them go on to graduate school. But it all begins with that important first step which you are taking now.

We want to assure you that our faculty and staff’s first commitment is to your success. One of the cornerstones of PACE at Vista is a structure dedicated to helping you reach your educational goals. All the steps you need to register, enroll and start class—assessment, orientation, counseling and class scheduling—are arranged through our PACE office.

You can count on us to support you.

PACE’s strong support system is a cornerstone of your success. PACE’s strong support system is a cornerstone of your success. A Vista counselor is assigned exclusively to PACE students to help with academic planning.

By the time you arrive for your first PACE class, we make sure that you’re college-ready. All of our PACE students complete special Orientation and Assessment sessions which help prepare them for college-level work. A special PACE Tutorial Program designed exclusively for you helps with college-level English and math classes.

We believe in team work.

As Vista PACE students, you work in teams and small support groups. You join a 35-member group or "cohort," and have the same classmates and teachers for five semesters.

Together, you create a "buddy system" to help you.Our experienced faculty works together to plan your courses. They listen to what you have to say. This leads to planned assignments, coordinated across classes so that you can study your subjects from different perspectives. For example, you may read The Great Gatsby for an English class and be asked to write about its literary merits. But in a history class, your assignment may be to do a paper on what the novel says about life in the 1920s.

PACE classes fit your schedule and cost less.

You attend class 6 evenings a month and 6 Saturdays each semester. As a California resident your community college enrollment fee is only $12 per unit.

Call Us to enroll.

We care so much about your success that PACE has established a 24-hour phone number where you can always ask questions and express concerns. Just call (510) 841-0809 and leave a message any time.
